The Gamecock 7s team went 1-3 Saturday in the Sandman 7s Tournament in Blacksburg Saturday while the 15s team defeated NC State in Raleigh 25-0.


The 7s team played uninspired rugby in the morning games, dropping games to NC State (28-7) and Kentucky (24-0).  The Gamecocks played better against Tennessee but fell short by a conversion (19-17). USC hit its stride in the final game, a 36-7 win over Maryland. Cole Maney led the Gamecocks in scoring with three trys while Jack Gallagher and Connor McPhail scored two trys.


Starters Peter Blackburn, Charlie Dwyer and Charlie Feehan look to return to the lineup in time for the SCRC 7s Tournament April 12 in Greer, S.C.


In Raleigh, South Carolina led 15-0 at the break and put up two additional trys against NC. State in the second half. The Gamecocks dominated forward play and set pieces. Abram Keener led with two trys. Will Mahaffey, Chris Henkles and Tommy Darlington also found the try zone.


The Gamecock 15s team will close out the spring season Saturday with a home game against Belmont Abbey.
